This online course meets the state’s Initial Professional Certification requirement for “beginning teacher assistance from Missouri colleges and universities.” The MSTA Online BTA course is sponsored by the MU College of Education. The participants will learn effective teaching practices and strategies for successful professional growth. Discussions and activities will include classroom management, legal issues, parent communication and MSTA support for beginning teachers. Upon completing the course, participants will receive a letter verifying they have met the IPC requirement. This letter should be placed in your personal professional file and a copy given to your superintendent.
This course is designed to teach you the nuts and bolts of performance-based teacher evaluations, commonly referred to as PBTE. You will become familiar with the philosophy, terminology and structure of classroom observations and the resulting evaluation. You will also be arming yourself with the information necessary to write a professional development plan, or PDP, that meets your needs as a developing teacher.

Use the documentation to support communications with students, parents, and administrators. You will establish ways to build personal responsibility for your students. At the conclusion you will have techniques and materials that can be immediately applied in the classroom.
